Dry Needling
Not sure what dry needling is? Dry needling is a technique to penetrate the skin, subcutaneous tissues, and muscles with the intention of breaking tissues without using an anesthetic. This promotes increased blood flow supply area the treated area. Dry needling is used to reduce muscle pain, through a local inflammatory process.
Why Do We Use Dry Needling ?
We use dry needling for many other reasons other than muscle recovery. Dry needling comes traditional Western acupuncture which was originated in China. There are four other reasons to use dry needling, to relieve pain, decrease edema, increase of range of motion and flexibility, and increase power and strength. This includes scar tissue, tendons, and muscles. This technique can be used pregame, postgame, during half time or intermission or even following an injury. Trigger point release can be done effectively when a needle is placed into a trigger point to help release that muscle. Physical Therapists and Health Professionals must go though training of 54 hours of hands-on training to receive "The Certification in Dry Needling"(Cert. DN).
